Hi, I'm Desirae.
Who am I?
Well, I'm Desirae!
I grew up in Connecticut and moved to the North East Kingdom of Vermont in 2018. The past few years have definitely flown by, and I'm so excited to see where the next few take me! I love all things food, exploration, art, animals (I have 1 cat, 2 dogs, and 19 chickens!), and nature. I love to travel when I can and see new states, views, and try new food.
I also really love working, maybe a little too much. My "regular" job is in wood manufacturing. I've been in manufacturing for over 10 years now and I don't see myself leaving any time soon.
Outside of that photography is my passion. I do it because I love it, not because I have to. Capturing love has become my niche, I guess, and I definitely don't have a single complaint about it!
When did I start photography?
I started my true photography journey back in 2015 or 2016 when I bought my first camera. I say "true" because I was definitely taking photos before then, but a nice camera definitely beats my phone and the cute point and shoot cameras I had before! I started photographing pretty much anything I could and since then I've helped others photograph weddings, photographed a quickly growing number of my own, as well as families, couples, and a few pets... which I will happily capture more of, who doesn't want cute photos of their fur-babies?
Seriously, bring your dog (or cat), they make it way more fun!
What's my "style," anyways?
Every single time I get asked this I never know what to answer. After a LOT of thought I think I got it! Fun, candid with a splash of posed, easy. I want to capture real moments that remind you of that day and that time. I always tell people I work with that I'm definitely just as nervous to meet you and take your photos as you are to meet me and have me point a camera at you! Because of this I want to keep every second you're with me enjoyable, almost relaxing, but still fun. I love to invoke real feelings through prompts and movements. I don't want to tell you to stand there and stare at me with a forced smile, and I'm sure you don't either (those can come after everyone is comfy).
For weddings a lot of what I do is documentary, especially for your getting ready, ceremony, and reception, even some of your first look is me capturing the moments as they happen. I want you to remember the day as it happened, as well as get some cool shots of you two in between (remember, splash of posed!).
Okay, but what about my editing style?
The past year has honestly been a huge discovery period for me. As I find my work has been slowly evolving into a more natural, true to life, with a little pop. This goes back to wanting you to remember your day how it was, whether it was an indoor wedding, how summer family session, winter elopement, etc. I want you to be able to look at your photos and have them bring back memories, feelings, and love... all while still looking professional.
Any other questions?
Ask me! Don't ever feel hesitant to reach out to me, whether is to inquire about my photography services, or to ask what my favorite food is (anything carbs, really).
